Eurovision Song Contest 2009 – United Kingdom
It’s been a while since the UK won and the chances of it doing again is slim. The UK doesn’t have the disapora of people some of the countries in the east have. It doesn’t benefit from political voting.
The UK also has a relationship problem with the contest. Unlike the countries in the east which put up their best and most popular singers the UK tends to put unknowns up against them with songs written by commitees that are so bad they cannot get airplay on national radio. They treat the contest with equal contempt and ridicule. When the UK has put up known artists like Cliff Richard, Lulu and Katrina and the Waves, they have won, or come close, but somehow they keep forgetting this each year and the countries of Eastern Europe now rule the contest.
Which this in mind the writers of this year’s song have Andrew Lloyd-Webber amoung them to at least get a decent attempt at winning. And it’s not that bad either, as you would expect.
Will it be enough. We’re doubtful. There’s no doubt Jade Ewen’s peformance of “It’s My Time” is good but unless she’s well known who can say?
