Eurovision Song Contest 2009 – Montenegro
Okay, yes I know. Loved my some, dismissed by others as kitch nonsense. There is one thing that Eurovision is good for and that’s bringing us Europeans together in a love/hate relationship with an event which is unique to Europe. Votes by populations based on dispora and expat populations; votes by politics rather than the quality of the songs and votes by many neighbours for each other there is never any shortage of controversy.
Of course that’s what makes it fun isn’t it? Yes we can predict the results so far: Norway-Finland-Sweden, Cyrpus-Greece, Balkan states all voting for each other, former Soviet countries voting for each other no matter how good the song. However we still watch in the millions and many parties are held all across the continent.
