Exhibition “Preussisch Grün”
With the patronage of the German Minister of State for Culture, Christina Weiss, the Foundation of Prussian Palaces and Gardens is showing it’s biggest exhibition this year at Schloss Glienicke from the 18th of July until the 17th October.
Called “Pressisch Grün. Vom königlichen Hofgärtner zum Gartendenkmalpfleger” or “Prussian Green. From royal court gardeners to garden monument preservers”, the exhibition covers the Potsdam-Berlin parks and gardens listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site including Neuer Garten, Sacrow, Babelsberg and Pfingstberg.
The gardens were sadly destroyed when the Berlin Wall was built but have since reclaimed their former grander and design. Throughout the area historical photographs document the history and reconstruction as the visitors pass through.
Under the title “Preußisch Grün. Vom königlichen Hofgärtner zum Gartendenkmalpfleger” (Prussian green. From royal court gardeners to garden monument preservers), the Foundation of Prussian Palaces and Gardens is showing its biggest exhibition of the year at Schloss Glienicke from 18 July to 17 October 2004.
One highlight is an interactive walk through the virtually reconstructed “Italienische Kulturstück”. The garden used to stand outside the Roman Baths in Sanssouci Park but sadly no longer exists and was once part of the Potsdam-Berlin park and gardens designed by Peter Joseph Lenné during the 19th Century. This time, it is presented in the stable at Schloss Glienicke.
