3 minutes de silence pour les victimes duTsunami en AsieAcross Europe’s cities today a three minute silence has been honoured in memoral to the 150,000 people known to have lost their lives and those many thousands who are still missing in the tsunami which hit Indian Ocean last week.

Busy airports, railway stations and shopping centres stopped this morning to allow the silence to be observed.

National flags in many countries flew at half-mast as a sign of respect.

In Rome, Pope John Paul II offered prayers for those who were lost and for those struggling to put back their lives.

At this time, more than 9,000 foreign tourists, mostly Europeans, are either dead or missing due to the disaster.
